120 Aldersgate Street
Construct1 were engaged as Principal Contractor for the undertaking of improvement works to the façade of 120 Aldersgate Street situated in the heart of Barbican, London.
The main scope involved the retrospective installation of fire breaks within the existing external wall build-up to improve the compartmentation fire performance of the building. Construct1 were also appointed to undertake repairs and replacement of glazing units and external redecoration works.
The works were undertaken whilst the building remained full operational, serving up to 700 office workers. The building also posed various logistical challenges with adjoining neighbouring properties and numerous access constraints.
Construct1 worked closely with the client and their professionals during an early engagement contract to develop a suitable, safe and efficient logistics strategy to deliver the works. This included elements of works completed via abseiling and complex scaffold arrangements.
Construct1 also developed the design information for the required scope of works from RIBA Stage 2 to stage 4 during the early-engagement period, in order to provide the client with a fixed price and cost certainty for the works.
